To the Mexi-Rican Nitza Tufiño, seeing is an act of acknowledgment, and being seen is an act of asserting agency.  With a vast body of work, Nitza commemorates the people she knows and addresses historical inaccuracies. In her prints, paintings, installations, murals, and mosaics, she brings attention to the people of her community and the cultural richness of the cosmology of the indigenous people of the Caribbean, the Taínos, whose influence persists. Nitza will be joined in conversation by Rafael Damast, the Exhibitions Manager and Curator at Taller Puertorriqueño.

Tufiño's current solo exhibition, Asserting Presence, is on view at Taller Puertorriqueño through May 13, 2023.
