No Synthetic Colors
Join us for the Opening Reception of No Synthetic Colors, an Alumni Exhibition, juried and curated by Hallie Ringle, the Daniel and Brett Sundheim Chief Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania.
The works in this year's PAFA Alumni exhibition resist easy categorization. In No Synthetic Colors the themes are as varied as the objects, from ecological concerns to technology. Instead, the pieces are united by a commitment to rigor and innovative thinking, the same qualities that define PAFA's program. From a pea, to a sock puppet, to a scroll, the works are sharp. Some works are witty, some touch upon poignant narratives, while others deliberately embrace ambiguity. Collectively, these objects form a clear picture of the critical work that happens here at PAFA, which, in turn, helps to shape the state of contemporary art.
