Sarah McEneaney
Sarah McEneaney frequently includes herself, her studio, and her community in her work, depicted with a matter-of-factness that feels honest and can occasionally be whimsical. Her chosen paint medium - egg tempera - was frequently used by late-Medieval and Renaissance period European artists to depict Christian iconography. McEneaney hand-crafts her paint from the time-honored recipes; she cracks fresh eggs and mixes the yolks with pure pigment and distilled water. About her work she has said, "my paintings are autobiographical narratives. They involve issues, people, and places important to me. I believe that when art is generally personal it is also universal. My aim is to be straightforward and honest in the subject matter I chose and in how I paint it."
