Tower

Stuart Homer Frost

"Tower," depicts the upper most portion of a vast tower as it tapers off into a cupola. It appears to be simultaneously in use and under construction, as evidenced by figures swimming/bathing in a pool visible through the arched windows near the bottom of the paper and scaffolding that teeters, rickety on the brink of collapse. The entire structure is fantastic, a structure about building and the potential and limits of architecture rather than a functional edifice. Figures climb out the windows at the top of the tower to relax and prance on the roof - some fly away as though they were made of paper. Frost originally intended to depict bees buzzing around the tower as though it was a hive, but decided that people would be more interesting.
