After-School Studio Arts Program
Calling all high school students! PAFA’s After-School Art Program is now open for registration to any high school student interested in expanding their artistic skills. This free program offers hands-on instruction from PAFA faculty in disciplines like drawing and oil painting. Whether you’re building a portfolio or just exploring your creativity, this program is designed to help you grow as an artist.

FALL 2024
Introduction to Oil Painting: After-School Studio Art Program with Annie Thompson
Thursday 4-6 PM | October 3-December 12, 2024 (no class November 26)
Learn essential drawing techniques including shape, proportion, line quality, light, and perspective. Classes will take place in our Samuel M. V. Hamilton Building.
Learning Objectives:
- Confidence in drawing skills
- Strong portfolio pieces
- Understanding of composition, light, and form
All art supplies are provided. Attendance is required for full participation.
Foundations of Drawing: After-School Studio Art Program with Al Gury
Tuesdays 4-6pm | October 1 - December 10th, 2024 (no class November 28)
This course introduces oil painting from life, focusing on color, brushwork, and composition. Students will paint still-lifes, self-portraits, and PAFA’s historic plaster casts, progressing from a limited palette to larger, full-color works.
Learning Outcomes:
- Confidence with oil techniques
- Strong color mixing & value skills
- Effective composition and design
All art supplies are provided. Attendance is required for full participation.
